Musing Mondays

Do you have a favorite publishing house — one that puts out books that you constantly find yourself wanting to read? If so, who? And, what books have they published that you’ve loved? (This question/meme is again courtesy of MizB via Just One More Page.)

Right now my favorite publishing house is Hachette Book Group. Here is the “About Us” information presented on their website:

Hachette Book Group is a leading US trade publisher headquartered in New York, and owned by Hachette Livre, the second largest publisher in the world. In one year, HBG publishes approximately 450 adult books, 150 young adult and children’s books, and 60 audio book titles. In 2008, the company had a record 107 books on the New York Times bestseller list, with 35 of them ranked #1. In addition to selling and distributing its own imprints, HBG distributes publishing lines for Chronicle Books, Microsoft Learning, Arcade, Time Inc. Home Entertainment, Harry N. Abrams, InnovativeKids, Phaidon Press, Filipacchi Publishing, Kensington, MQ Publications, Strictly By The Book, Weinstein Books and Gildan Media.

Its “Company History” information follows:

Hachette Book Group was created when Hachette Livre, a global publishing company based in France, acquired Time Warner Book Group from Time Warner in 2006. Hachette Livre is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lagardère, a company that is active worldwide in the areas of communications and media (books, press, audiovisual and distribution/retailing of cultural products). HBG’s long history dates back to 1837 with the founding of Little, Brown and Company and it continues to evolve and grow today.

I found the Hachette site because of the The HERetic’s Daughter by Kathleen Kent (a Dallas-based author).

I enjoy looking at the “New Releases” tab, as well as the “Upcoming” tab. I also enjoy receiving the company’s newsletter via email.

Check out HBG.

I really LOVED The Heretic’s Daughter, but I never seem to notice the publisher 🙂 I don’t know anybody who pays any real attention to publishers when choosing a book. Here’s my response.

Susan, This publisher only stood out to me because I had never heard of it before. I do like getting their newsletter and I know a lot of the other book bloggers get newsletters and advanced reading copies from certain publishers. You’re right, the average reader could care less about who published the book.

One of my high school teachers made us read all the pages that contained all the info for a book even before page 1 and I have never gotten out of the habit . . .
