Topz Healthier Burger Grill

–from D Magazine

I went to lunch the other day and was just going to get a salad from a place near the office. When I got there, it was closed down again (for the second time). My company has been located in the Addison/Galleria area for a few years now, but I still miss the old work ‘hood when it comes to lunch/restaurants. The company used to be located near the Greenville Ave./Lovers Lane area (for 60 years) and it was not far from the Lovers Lane DART station. You couldn’t have asked for a better lunch location. There was Desperados, Bakers Ribs, Bangkok City, Campisi’s, Prego, Kosta’s Café, Royal Thai, Cowboy Chicken, Baker Bros. Deli, etc. The list was endless as Knox Street, NorthPark, Snider Plaza, and Preston Center were not that far away. Now we have all of Addison, but it’s just not the same. Everything is always crowded and traffic is a major hassle at all times. We have to have a traffic cop at lunch and after work just to safely and quickly get out of the building.

Anyway, I was walking back to my car when I saw a new little Italian place down from the defunct salad place. Before I got there, however, a nice lady gave me a coupon for the burger joint next door. I decided to check it out. This place is called Topz and it is actually part of a chain based in California. The burgers here seem to be healthier than what you would get at any fast food restaurant or places like Mooyah. They have a nice menu that includes beef and turkey burgers, chicken sandwiches, and turkey dogs. The fries, both sweet potato and what they call “Aero” fries (because they are not fried in oil, but air-baked) are delicious. If you don’t want to eat a bun, they will make your burger in a bowl like a salad.

I had gone there last Friday and went back already today. The best thing about Topz is that the people who run the place are extremely nice and will do anything to make your visit pleasant. They were so busy I did not get a chance to chat with them today, but they did remember me from the last visit. I will definitely go back next time I am craving a burger. If you are in the Addison area near Belt Line and the Dallas North Tollway, check out Topz Healthier Burger Grill at 5000 Belt Line Rd. (next to Freebirds).
