Belize appears to be a Central American country that would be a suitable for a great vacation experience. Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula are to the north, and Guatemala is to the south and west. Belize is part of the British Commonwealth and English is the official language. The country is a mix of many cultures and languages. Also, Belize is full of Mayan ruins and the coral reef draws scuba divers and snorkelers. The country exports oil and agriculture brings in revenue. Recently, construction and tourism has increased. Most of the violence in Belize is due to gang violence and drug trafficking. The fruit-eating toucan is the national bird. Interestingly, there is a large Mennonite community in Belize. The country, unlike all other Central American countries, only has one coastline. The country was previously called British Honduras.

I have recently read one novel set in Belize. The book was Whiplash River by Lou Berney. You can find my review HERE. I see that the first book in this book series is being filmed. This film, Gutshot Straight, should be good as I really like the main character, Shake Bouchon. Look for it! I will be.

Yes, definitely a spot suited for vacation, and thank you for sharing the name of the novel. I like stories set in exotic locations.
