Quincy Perkins is a Key West-based director, photographer, producer, and editor of short films and documentaries. In fact, one of his movies, Swingers Anonymous, will soon be competing at the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. Perkins, 35, was born in Key West, attended and graduated from Deerfield Academy, and attended the Stella Adler Academy in New York City. He and his wife, Lena, run their studio, White Orchid Studios, from Key West.
How did I hear about Perkins? I went to a book signing at the flagship Half Price Books store in Dallas, Texas, where the book Dallas Noir was being discussed. One of the stories was written by Jonathan Woods, an attorney-turned-noir writer. Woods informed me that his story, Swingers Anonymous, was soon to be filmed in Florida where he now lived and there was a Kickstarter campaign for the film.
I was on board and loved the 25-minute film. A man goes to a swingers’ party and two people end up dead. The lead actor, Tom Frank, and all the actors are very good, and the film is comedy/noir at its best. As the tag line reads: What would you do if you ended up at a swingers party with two dead bodies and $20,000 in drug money?
