About MDC

Hello,

Welcome to my blog! A little information about who I am:

I work at an oil and gas consulting company as an engineering tech in Dallas, Texas, USA. My job is to assist petroleum professionals in their assessment of international oil and gas properties. The results of our work are used mainly by companies to show an uninterested third-party opinion of their reserves to buy or sell properties or to obtain funding. In getting to our product of a report filled with important numbers, I work with engineers, geologists, petrophysicists, geophysicists, and other professionals. At the end of the day, I am ready for my mind to leave the world of numbers, charts, graphs, and maps and enter the world of art, literature, music, and video.

As an outlet for creativity, I began this blog in 2008. I love to read and love to read about reading and writing and writers. I also enjoy travel and learning about different cultures and new places. Through the years I have been fortunate to travel to Europe a few times and will continue my journeys there. I also like visiting other places in the USA. I have just returned from traveling to Cuba for the first time. In the future, I hope to visit some more Central and South American countries.

Thanks for visiting my blog and learning about me.

  Cheers, Denise

Great blog, Denise. Always good to learn more about blogging friends, like you. And hey, I can definitely be a minimalist — I’m with you all the way.

Cheers, Martha. Now you know why the “painting” appealed to me.

I learned of Lloyd Lofthouse through Diane Ravitch’s blog. Reading more about him led me to you. I am an elementary public school teacher in Carson, California (18 years now), and I love that you featured an interview with Lloyd on fostering a love of reading. I am interested in anything that helps get kids hooked on reading. I teach 4th graders. The best thing about my vocation is when a reluctant reader begins to love reading and starts to devour books. It’s one of the best feelings in the world! Additionally, I am a big supporter of the fact that human beings grow and excel through the Arts. Our students need to create and express themselves through the Arts, and I love that you feel the same.

So nice to see your comment today, Eileen. Diane Ravitch is trying to warn Americans about the dangers of privatization of education and how that model will not work, and Lloyd tries very hard to spread that message as well. I admire them both. I have done two interviews with Lloyd because he really takes the time to respond to my questions and I appreciate his efforts and his writing very much. Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope to be posting more in the near future! Cheers, Denise
